Prayer Pager Ministry
Thanks to our United Methodist Men, we now have a Prayer Pager Ministry. The United Methodist Men have started this ministry by donating six pagers to the church. Each of these pagers are equipped with toll-free telephone numbers.
Prayer Pagers are a means for our members, family and friends to contact a person in great need of prayer, and to let them know that we are praying for them. It works like this:
First the church will provide a person in great need with a vibrating pager that he or she can keep with them during their time of need.
Before
giving the beeper to the person in need, Rev. Dana will record the person's name
in the beeper with instructions to the caller on how to contact that
person. He will then deliver the pager to the person or someone in that
person's family.
Rev. Dana will then add that person's name and pager number to the "Messenger" and the weekly bulletin. The name and pager number will also be added to this web site.
Next, everyone will pray for the person in need. This is so important for us to continually be in prayer for the needs of others. God is so good. He hears the prayers of His people and responds in His abundant love.
After you have prayed for the need of that person, take a moment to go to your telephone and call that person's pager number. When your call is answered, you will hear a short beep. Press the number 1 on your telephone and then hang up the phone. It is that easy.
The pager assigned to that person will then be alerted with a vibration that the person can feel. That little vibration will let them know that someone has just prayed for them.
The person in need will know immediately when someone has been praying for them. This is such a powerful ministry tool for someone in need. Imagine being in the hospital, perhaps alone, and unsure of your future. At that moment of need you feel the vibration from your prayer pager and realize that someone, somewhere has just said a prayer for you and you alone. Many of you know the great strength that you receive from knowing the you are being prayed for. How wonderful it must be to physically feel that you have been prayed for many times during the day, and to know that your future is taken care of by God Himself.
Another benefit of the pager is that a family member can wear the pager when the person in need is having tests, or perhaps in surgery. Imagine the strength that loved one receives while waiting during those times, when they feel the pager vibrate and know that a prayer has been lifted to heaven for their loved one.
